pc upgrade or not to pc upgrade?

Hi everyone!!
My PC is now 1.5 years old and that time where I ask…should I sell it and get some cash or do some minor upgrades to get me through another year? I like to play lots of games and do a bit of Photoshop, movie editing, multitask and have a dual display.

Current Specs

Athlon XP 2600+
1.25 Gig of DDR400 PC 3200
MB – Asus A7N8X-E (socket A CPU which I don’t think I can buy anymore?)
Nvidia GeForce 6800 GT (awesome vid card!!)
2 SATA HD’s
2 IDE Only HD’s

thanks in advance for your replies.

Upgrading your ram is always nice. Not too expensive if you shop around for a couple weeks. Ram prices fluctaute a lot.

I have 2048mb of DDR400. Wish I could afford 4 1gb sticks. :(

your computers only a year and a half old, so you can easily find new parts for it. you should be alright for another two or three years, or until new games want super system requirements. 1.25gigs of ram is alot of ram, even though it may not seem like much when you look at some of the systems the guys on here have. i think you should be ok for the time coming.

It doesnt look like you need to update to me. Everything looks good. I guess you can get the latest processor but may have to get a new motherboard too.

If you're unsatisfied with the performance as it is, i'd sell it rather than try to upgrade, as upgrading would require replacing just about everything anyway.

You'd need to be prepared to spend a fair amount of money to make a new system worth it, though.

New CPU, new vid card, new mobo, keep everything else. Of course the CPU and vid card usually do the most damage when it comes to price. But you can reduce the cost by getting the new stuff, then selling the old stuff.
