pc vrs mac?

im about sick of my pc, been through about 4 in the past 8 years.
currently i run windows xp

i thought about getting an imac 17"
but im not sure if a mac is actually slower than a pc? are pc's faster than mac's at web browsing?
ive did some research on mac's, some sites say they are great and blow windows away while others say mac's are down right slow (the new mac's included)

im confused, i dont know what to do, if i should just buy a new pc or try a mac out??
 
build a brand new windows vista gaming PC and you will not be dissapointed. macs will not be of the same caliber soon.

whats your budget for a new computer and what do you want to do with it?
 
so pretty much a mac will disapoint me with slowness?
thanks i would have cried if it were slower than what i have now lol

i dont really do much with a pc other than web browsing all day. but im so impatient i have for things to load
i use aol as my main browser which i guess is a no no in the first place. when aol is slow i'll use firefox or mozilla which is way faster
i dont run any games

how are alienware computers?

i think my budget would be around $1200

the thing that has me interested in a mac also was the low risk of viruses and spywares.
i download alot (mainly just screen savers and desktop themes) and they always kill my pc with spyware slowing it down. mac's from what i understand arent under attack (yet)

i just downloaded a screensaver from freeze.com, within minutes my pc is running slow as molasses. kicker is the screensaver doesnt even work :(
i cant even open ad/remove programs, i click on it and nothing happends
i think i just broke my pc :(
i did run aol's spyware program and it blocked a bunch of them, all were form freeze.com
things are a bit better but still somethings wrong. i ran a virus check and it came up with zero viruses

and its your internet connection for faster downloads and such, not the PC. the PC is for the APPs and files that you use, not the internet. your download and load speed all depends on your internet connection.

however, a new super fast PC is a great solution. all you have to do is download free firewalls and ALWAYS monitor what you do on the internet. a careless mistake is what causes the problems.

how do i build a computer? i clicked on all those links but do i just have to add it to cart and it will be built for me?
im a girl btw :P
the only game ive ever played online was the sims and scrabble lol
but if a gaming pc can make it faster heck thats what i want.
thats my problem im not careful in what i download, i'll see a cute screensaver with butterfly's and i just cant help myself. if windows would come with somekind of screensaver and theme package i wouldnt have to download everything and put my pc at risk
windows 98 was better than xp for that, at least they had about 6 or so themes i could choose

any input on alienware?? they claim to be fast gaming pc's :confused:
 
If you wanted to make your pc faster, back-up all your important docs, format your hard-drive and do a fresh install. I can gurantee it will run faster.
 
alien ware PC's look pretty but are really overpriced to get a computer like the 1 joeswim suggested would be like 3000 dollars on alien ware
 
yeah alienware is out of the question like secondtime said

building is very very easy. just spend some time reading and stuff on this forum, and it will be so easy that even a girl can do it! (pun intended)

ok i like this idea lol
i have nothing that i wanna keep so that part should be easy
ok im not sure how to do this. a few years ago i tried to unistall windows and then reinstall it again but i dont think it worked since all my old stuff was still on my pc.

so by doing what you say will this get rid of any spyware crapola and pretty much start me off as if its a brand new pc??
how do i do this??

You will lose everything. So it will start you off as though you've got a new PC. I think you can format your hard drive in the windows install, so put in the CD and follow the instructions really.
 
that is actually better than building because it already has vista, you are right

i dont think i have ever said something is better than building before
