PC Went BOOM

Ok so i've built a new PC here's the breakdown

MOBO - ASUS P5NSLI
Graphics Card - EVGA GeForce 7600 GT
CPU - Core 2 duo 6300
OCZ 2x512 DDR2
HD - 160gb Maxtor (already was using on other pc)
Power Supply - Coomax 400W

so here's what happened. put everything together plugged it in. everything seemed ok, hard drive spun up temp steady a little below 30C

then i brought it into my office plugged in the monitor and when i turned on the pc heard a loud POP sound a bright light around the video card area.

After that the Graphics card wouldn't work and the hard drive would not spin up unless it was only plugged to the power supply..tried other HD's and Graphics cards with no luck.
I've RMA'd back the video card and the MOBO for replacements (and upgrading the graphics card to XFX 7600 GT) . my question. Is it the MOBO that's likely fried or the Graphics card or both?
and the BIG question. is there a high chance that the CPU is cooked as well? unable to test it now as i don't have any other compatible MOBO's for the time being. thoughts?
also is here any easy way to screw up my connections to the MOBO that may have caused this?

There's no way to tell without testing... depending on what kind of warranty you have and how long you've had your computer, you might want to send it back if the warranty is going to expire before you'll be able to return it.

Could have had a bad power supply or when you transported it, somehow had a loose connection somewhere and shorted it out.

then i brought it into my office plugged in the monitor and when i turned on the pc heard a loud POP sound a bright light around the video card area.

You sure it was the video card, the only time I have saw that was the P/S going out!

The only time I've something like this happen is when the mobo is shorted to the case or somebody "accidently" wired 240 into a 120v outlet. i.e. 2 hots instead of 1 hot and 1 not.

i'm pretty sure the graphics card was the issue as the burst of light seemed to be located in that area of the mobo. although i didn't find any burn marks or burnt capacitors either on the card or mobo the PS still powers on after this happened lights, fans, HD (when IDE not plugged in) so i don't think the issue is the PS. Also as stated above this all happened when i turned on the pc with with monitor plugged in. when it was powered up previous to that everything sounded and seemed to operate fine
