PC won't boot with new GPU

Hi all,

I have just bought and into my PC (see signature for specs) a XFX R9 280X card. However I find that since I have installed it, my PC will no longer boot at all. I turn it on, the PC physically starts up, fans, CPU etc, but I no longer hear that start up beep, and there is no signal being sent to my monitor. The PC will just run continuously like this until I hit the power off button.

I have switched it on and opened the case, only to find that there is a red LED shining solidly next to the card. What does this mean? Does it mean my card is dead, or something else? Maybe I need a BIOS update? My other card works just fine, and my PSU doesn't seem to be showing any signs of damage (as far as I know).

Any help would be appreciated, if it is likely to be the card then I will return it ASAP while I can.
 
Do you have both pci express power connectors attached to the video card? Looks like you need 2 pin connectors. Computer will not work without these connected.

The car requires 1+8 pin, and 1+6 pin. My PSU has two 6+2 pin connectors, so I have connected one with the 6+2, and one with just the 6 pin. The PC must be recognising that a card is actually plugged in, because when I switch on the PC without a card, I get a series of beeps (I imagine to clarify that something isn't right). But like I said, I hear nothing when the new card is plugged in and wired up. Which in my mind, tells me that the card is actally being recognised in some way, it's just not working. My MB is 3 years old if that's any help, is there any other info you would need? Would it be likely to be out of date MB firmware?

UPDATE: I think I'll just get a refund on the card, I tried my brothers 270X and it worked no problem. Think it might just be a dead card.

Hi all, I have fixed this issue. I sent the card back, received a replacement, only to find the new card had the same issue. This pretty much clarified that it was an issue with my rig rather than the card itself. I read on a few different forums and discussions and found that this was a fairly common problem with motherboards around 3 years old, or older. Updating the BIOS to the latest version solved the problem for me.
