Pc won't play sound through tv

So I hooked my pc up to my tv via HDMI, but the sound won't play through the tv speakers. I tried hooking an aux cord from the pc to tv, but still no dice. However, when I disconnect my hdmi cord sound will play through the tv. Any suggestions on what to do? I'm updating the graphics card right now, but I don't know what else I could do.

Go into sound properties and change the sound output to hdmi.

I unplugged the aux cord so the pc will run the sound through the tv, however it is not recognizing the tv. It only says Digital Audio (S/PDIF)

Are you using hdmi from the video card or motherboard? Can you go into device manager and expand sound section and tell me whats listed?

You have to right click the volume icon in the task bar and set the HDMI output you are using to default device.
