Hey guys I'm at a loss here can't get my x58 rig to see a new sata 2 ssd from ocz. I've tried different cables etc the basics I've set AHCI mode in bios. I've tried different sata ports and several sata power connecter from my corsair cxm 600w.

No dice the bios won't see the drive nor will windows 7 in my computer or disk management device manager etc. What can I try next? I don't think the drive is faulty it's brand new I'm really hoping I'm missing something obvious here thanks.

I have an evga x58 ftw3 motherboard with an i7 930 at stock and 12gb of ram. 600w cxm. A 1tb Hdd and an optical drive. And an old gtx 460 1gb soon that will be upgraded also if I can get this ssd to work.

Thanks guys any suggestions please.

Have you tried setting IDE mode if you can?

The drive is probably just bad, all you need is a power cable and a data cable and the drive should be visible in disk management with no data on it yet.

Just because its new, doesn't mean it can't be faulty. A lot of people have this same thought and you must realize that things can go wrong in production, transportation, shipping. Go look on newegg.com and look at the reviews and see how many post items that are DOA which means dead on arrival. Many items are DOA, especially power supplies.

If you can use other hard drives and optical drives with this motherboard then I'd say the SSD is bad.

If possible try the SSD in another machine. If another machine doesn't detect it then that'd pretty much confirm the SSD is dead.

If you RMA it you should be able to get a replacement.

Just yesterday I had to RMA a laptop for my father to MSI (only 3 months old) and an RMA to Corsair for a replacement front fascia to a 350D matx case we built for my grandmother 3 weeks ago, cause the clips holding in front fan cover snapped off..

Crap happens,, brand new, semi new.. dont matter

How are the 6 Gbps ports facilitated on this board? Early boards had separate Marvell controllers that don't necessarily show up in BIOS (and won't unless the driver is installed, too).

Does it show up on a 3 Gbps port? I know you indicated you tried different ports but was hoping they wouldn't be on the same controller :)

Beers it has a red coloured sata 6 port which is based on the early marvell controllers. I have tried it in this port also but didn't know it would not show up without a driver. I've read that these old controllers are notoriously bad and sata 6gb isn't truly supported on them. But I'll give the driver a go it must be on my evga dvd. I doubt it will work though. Will report back . Thanks

At least test with the Intel 3 Gbps ports too, then you should see an entry for the device in BIOS when using that interface (you'd also have all of the same features, except transfers will be limited around ~275 MB/sec).

did this get resolved? I had an issue on my samsung EVO 850s, i purchased a 250gig and a 120 gig at the same time. And neither of them showed up in my computer home screen. I fixed it, but, was just wondering how you fixed or resolved your issue.

New drives won't show up until after they are formatted.
