A few hours ago my computer locked up and i was forced to shut it down. When i turned it back on i get the "Windows failed to start. A recent hardware or software change might be the cause. To fix the problem.." message. I tried using my windows installation disc and restarting but it does nothing but return to this message. Any idea what the problem could be? Not very detailed explanation but its a starting point. I should be browsing the forums for awhile so ill be around.

What were you doing at the time of it locking up? Have you tested the hard drive yet?

I dowloaded the program and burned it to a CD. My pc wouldnt read it so i followed the instructions and changed the priority in the bios. It still wont read it and continues to go straight to the error message.

Ok, make sure all connections (power and data) are tight. You might want to put the ssd drive into another system to see if it detects it or not.

The connections are tight and I even tried a new cable but nothing changed. I'll have to try it on a friends computer when I get home.

All you really need to do is connect the data and power cords to see if it detects it, don't need to physically screw it in to a drive bay.

SSD drives should last a while as long as you aren't continuing doing read and writes. You may want to have someone else confirm the drive is dead.

Well on newegg I was reading some reviews and quite a few people had theirs die on them after a few months of use. Not necessarily the case for me but it's possible.

Lets say I figure out that it is the SSD and I want to just put the OS on my
HDD to make life easier. Will that simply require me to reinstall win 7 or is there more to it?

Software illiterate here. Obviously stuff on my ssd will need
To be reinstalled but what about files and documents that are already on my hard drive?

Do you have more then one partition on your hard drive? If so theny you could transfer all data to the other partition and reinstall windows on the other. If only one partition, then you will need to back up data to a different drive and then reinstall windows fresh.
