First i would like to say i dont know were this thread should be, so im sorry if im in the wrong section. My question is this, i just order my comp and i olny order a video card, i was woundering do i need to buy a network card just to get on the internet? also do i need a sound card to hear, well sound? Im just a little worried about this beacause i dont know anything about type/manufacture or anything else about sound cards/network cards.

Thanks

Dan

What motherboard did you get? More than likely it comes with onboard sounds, so you won't need to buy a sound card to hear the sound, just install all the drivers that come with it.

As for the network, is it wired or wireless?

If you have onboard sound, no. If you have onboard network card, no. Any motherboard that supports Athlons, Semprons, x2s, P4, Core 2 Duo, Quad core, will have all of this.

i have a wired verison DSL interent. And on the box of my motherboard, it says that its suppors quad core CPU's. Ummm, i dint see any "cards" are the build in?, there are little holes for my mic n sound for headphones, is that the "built in" sound card, also it looks like there is an Etherent (RJ45 jack i think, not sure about that ) jack above the 4USB ports. So im not sure if that stuff is build in. Thanks for posting:D.

Thanks

Yes yes, if you have anything that supports quad core you'll have it. Right below the mouse/keyboard ports and by the USB ports is the RJ-45. The small holes are your "onboard" sound. They basically put the card on the motherboard, they don't give you the sound card. If my 2 year old motherboard has onboard sound and RJ-45 (one I'm using <Sempron 2600+>) then an Quad-support motherboard absolutely would have it.

Hope that helped :D

yes it helped alot, thanks for the quick post guys, i am realy thankfull for all your knowlage. Thanks for replaying. I "shouldhave the case and monitor my monday :( but i like to jsut sit and watch my hardware LOL (CREEPY), but thanks for the quick replays most of my troubles are over with. I think im going to hijack my own thread....hehe... I order Artic thermal past for my CPU (q6600) and CPU Fan (Zalman), but the Zalamn fan came with thermal grease. What one should i use? Also, can i touch the bottom of the heat sink on the CPU FAN? Sorry one more question, can i give the fan ESD? Just some simple questions a noobie needs to be answered. Thanks again!

Arctic Silver :D.

Yes, you can touch it... And yes you can ESD it, but you wouldn't need it.

It's ok, we all started off just like you. Asking questions.

EDIT: Kornowski had an good point... some of Zamlan's paste was pretty good.

I'd try the paste on the Zalman, then if it's no good, buy some Arctic Silver 5... No point buying it if it isn't needed ;)
