pci express 2.0?

are 2.0 cards compatible with my "old" pci-express x16 slot?

was thinking about getting one of those 3850 cards.

Yeah, 2.0s are the same thing as pci-e x16 except they have a higher bandwidth.

From everything i've heard and read, PCI-E 2.0 video cards are backwards compatible with PCI-E x16 slots.

They should work. Here's an analogy to help you understand. PCIE 2.0 is to PCIE X16 as the PS3 is to the PS2 with being able to run its games. Except it works both ways I believe. So you probably can use PCIE X16 cards on 2.0

By doubling the bandwidth, they are doubling the lane range, from x16 to x32 lanes. The slot itself remains the same, the voltage as well. PCI-E 3.0 has already been announced, and this will double 2.0's bandwidth, at the same time remaining perfectly backwards compatible. [/echo]
