PCI Express 2 Back Compatible?

Hello everyone,

I'm looking to upgrade my ATI 5770 to something newer like a 6850(not looking to go overboard with the upgrade as I want to spend money on other stuff). The family computer which was my old gaming computer allowed PCI Express 1 cards.

Are PCI-e 2.0 cards backward compatible with PCI-E 1.0 boards?

If a 5770 ran on it, a 6850 will too. Both are PCIe 2.0/1

I know that i'm wondering if a PCIe 2.0 card will work on an older PCIe motherboard. The 6850 will go into my current rig(signature) and the 5770 will go into my old rig(Asus P5B motherboard which only support PCIe)if possible.

It has PCIe 1.1, so it should be fine.
