pci express with agp at the same time

If I have a PCI express slot and an AGP slot, can I use both slots for a GPU in case I wanted 3 monitors or would the PCI express slot stop the agp slot from working, or what would happen? I guess I do not want to find a pci gpu b/c from what I understand that would work. I have heard that a PCI express card might not like working with a different video card.
 
It's really just a hit and miss as I undertstand with PCI-e and AGP together. On the other hand PCI-E and PCI cards will work together.
 
What board do you have? It should say in the manual if the AGP and PCIe slot can be used at the same time.
 
The mobo book was lost in a recent move along with the box.

If thats the board you have then it only has a PCI express port for the video card, not an AGP port. What made you think it had an AGP port?
 
Well if it has a PCI-e slot then most likely it has a PCI slot. So why not run those. PCI runs faster than AGP anyways.

PCI runs slower than AGP

PCI-Express (x16 at least) runs faster than AGP

Most motherboards only support 1 of the 2 slots.
Those PCI-E + AGP motherboards were made to make the switch easier for people building their own computers. It is the same with old motherboards that had DDR and DDR2 slots, you could only use either DDR or DDR2, not both at the same time.
