what are pci-expresss x1 slots used for im going to have 2 of them on my motherboard 680i?

But anyways, it's mainly used for add-on cards and controller cards. There are some other cards like network cards, or even a couple video cards (not high-end ones) that use the PCI-E x1 slot.

I know what you mean about them not seeming very useful. However, in the future more expansion cards will use them; I heard rumors of a PCI-e 1x sound card from Creative a while back.

I hope they use at least x4, since as far as I know PCI-E x1 has the same bandwidth of a traditional PCI slot.
