Im shopping for a new mobo and wondering if I really need a PCI express x1 slot? Aren't most cards today x16? I have a AGP video card right now that I want to keep, but would also like a PCI express slot in case I ever want to upgrade.
Yeah, i've been looking around on newegg and started to notice that. Not sure what I should do since I dont have enough money for a new video card, but I would really like to have a few pci express slots.
a FEW?, looks like your not getting more than one, id dump the AGP in all, sell your card on ebay and buy a cheap pci-e card, even if its something real cheao to hold you over until you get something mid range.
Ya you are only gonna get 1 pci-e x16 slot, and no other pci-e slots if you keep your agp card. But you really only need a pci-e 16x slot, because there aren't very many cards made for the x1 slots yet.
Yeah I think I really only need one pci-e x16...but I havent even been able to find a board that has both agp and pci-e on it (at least on newegg). I'm getting an e6400 with ddr2 800 ram. If you can find any good boards with both agp and pci-e please let me know. Thanks!
I don't think you are gonna find one that supports core 2. I would buy a cheapo pci-e card for now returntoempire said, and then save up for a better one. If you are upgrading to core 2 I am sure you can squeeze out some money for a new video card. BTW what kind of video card is your agp?
