pci graphics cards

Sorry to bring this up again. I realise there have been several threads on this before but would appreciate anybodies input.

I would like to play Battlefield 2 on my PC. My computer meets all the spec apart from the Graphics card. My PC only has PCI slots so I would need PCI card. The best I can figure is I need to get either a 8500gt or x1550.

Is there likely to be much difference between the two? Will they play the game to a reasonable standard?

PS new computer or motherboard is not an option and I won't be playing any other games

the 8500GT is actullay PCI-e, not PCI....big big difference.... make sure u have the correct slots. and with an 8500gt u should b able to run it all on high with aa and af, depending on ur resolution and pc specs

Thanks for your repsonse, the info regarding the 8500GT being up to the task was what I was looking for.

There is actually a PCI 8500gt made by Sparkle. Not readily available but can be found on ebay. I just wanted to make sure I wasn't wasting my money before I purchased it. As for the PC spec it is Celeron D 2.66ghz with 512mb ram. Is there any other spec I might want to check before going any further?

There IS a PCI 8500GT, My friend has one in his system, and its listed on Sparkle's site. Im not sure of the performance however as he doesnt game on it

Thank you...I stand corrected:)

On the German website and German Google search they mention nothing at all about such a thing. They only list the 8400 GS as the highest PCI card.

Then shoot for the 8500 GT....it will be the most power you are going to get from PCI card. I am not sure about the bandwidth that is transferred through the PCI slot as compared to the PCI-E slot. Do some looking around and see if you can find any tests on the card.

Thanks guys

How much of an issue is the power supply when it comes to graphics cards? Sparkle don't seem to suggest a minimum necessary for the 8500GT but I other threads often mention it with regards other cards
