PCI slots

If you install a video card or other utility in a PCI slot will it make the slot "wear out" or decrease the slot's life? Weird question but i was thinking about it earlier.

You mean because it's always pushing the slot's pins out? I'm sure it eventually would if you keep swapping stuff out of the slots.

but i were to install a video card, keep it there it wouldn't really effect it?
No, thats what the slots are for, where else are you going to put it? I have got boards from back in 1995 and have had many cards in the slots and they all work fine. But like anything some slots do go out but it would not have anything to do with having a card in it, unless the card shorted out or something.

I'm sure there could be some way to prove using or not using slots could shorten their life, but I've seen many, MANY components or motherboards die before slots giving out. Actually...I've never seen a slot give out ;)

I doubt any card slot would wear out, especially PCI or ISA. ISA was built like stone, and PCI is around the same. I switch cards all the time (having around 10 modem cards ) never had an slot break on me (yet :P).
