is there s difference. my computer came with a the nvdia 8500 gt. and if i upgrade to the gddr2 or gddr3 pcie will that still be compatiable just wont run at gddr2/3 but what my slot is capable of.
 
not to be rude but um.... I can't really understand what your saying. But what I do think you are saying is.... are you able to run GDDR2/3/4/5 in a pcie slot. Yes you can you can run any kind of memory that is on your video card
 
well i upgraded and bought this card

ehh to late =P you should have gotten the PowerColor HD 2600 XT 256MB GDDR4 version

Wow, I'd love to hear where you came up with that. Yes you can run a PCI-E 2.0 card in a 1.1 slot, and vice versa. As for performance gain/loss, you would most likely only notice it with the high end video cards like the 4870 X2 or GTX 280, not with the 8500GT.
 
well when i searched newegg it didnt have the gddr4 at all. i got hte card o na good deal with a rebate itll cost 60$. newegg was about 50-80$ cheaper than anyother online source. which y the EGG kicks a$$

Yup, lower end cards don't even use all the bandwidth on the PCIe slot, so you won't notice any difference with PCIe 2.0.

your video card takes minimal amounts of memory from your system memory here and there, most of what it needs is kept right in its own memory. its like a seperate sub-system to your computer completely dedicated to processing video.

an AGP slot wouldn't bottleneck any video card.. especially one with 512mb or more memory. depending on the game and graphics settings 256mb should be just fine too.

That's just way wrong, video cards are already pushing the bandwidth capability of PCI-E x16 slots (not 2.0). Also, when playing games at the insane 2560x1600 (around that) resolution, there's a noticeable difference between 512MB and 1GB.

Take a look at these benchmarks, which were several years ago using the X1900XTX and the G80 8800GTS!
