PCIe into PCI

Darn. The reason I was asking is because I want to upgrade my video card, but I think I only have a PCI slot with a GeForce FX 5500 card in there now.

If someone could correct me if I am wrong, the way to find out what slots you have is to open up the device manager, open up Display Adapters, right click on the device and it will tell you.

Mine says - Location: PCI Slot 7 (PCI bus 1, device 0, function 0)

Which means I only have a PCI slot and not a PCIe, correct?
 
Just open your computer. It's the only sure way. That or if you search around on the internet for your computer/motherboard model, you can typically find specs on it.
 
If the card came with the computer and you bought it from a store and never opened it then I must warn you you void all warranties. I just found that out too late a long time ago......but if you built your own computer then by all means look inside it.

I don't think it voids the warranty if the computer is opened. Some older ones it might, but I know my Compaq had nothing to keep me from opening it(VOID sticker or anything)
 
Odd, most do. E Machines do. I'm not to sure but I think most of them do. ALTOUGH if you pay a pro or if your a certified computer tech then it will not be voided.
 
ya, i have an HP, and added two plextor 16x dvd-r drives which eventually killed my power supply (it was WEAK) and compusa threw in a new 500w power supply with no questions asked

most warranties overlook new components pretty fairly
