PCIe/PCI 2.0

So, I've been wandering around researching for my build and I've always had this too-many-times-googled with no results question. I've come across the terms PCIe and PCI Express, I resume it's the same thing, but would like some confirmation on that.

Most essentially though I've thought about PCI and PCI 2.0. I've seen motherboards support PCI but cards, for example, stating PCI 2.0 requirement. Is there any difference in this or something? Or is this like SATA and S-ATA II?

You kinda lost me there. At first your talking about PCIe then change to PCI. If your asking about PCI 1.0 vs. PCI 2.0. Pretty sure the PCI 2.0 standard included 3.3 and 5 Volt.

Version 2.0 from 30 April 1993 defined the shape of the connectors and additional cards and gave it a clock speed of 66 MHz versus 33 MHz for version 1.0, therefore doubling its theoretical throughput to reach 266 Mb/s on 32 bits.

Sorry about that, I'm not a very knowledgeable person with regards to details on computer specs, but I see now and thank you for clarifying.

Is PCI 1.0/2.0 different from PCI Express? Maybe you lost me because I'm only halfway attempting to find myself. I'm seriously confused over this matter. Maybe this will clarify.

A motherboard I've targeted states 1 PCIe x 16 and the graphics card I wish to purchase says PCI Express 2.0. I could use some elaboration on this since I don't wish to go blindly buying everything that seems nice on its own.

Thanks for your time btw...:)

PCI and PCIe/PCI Express are two completely different buses. Pretty sure now your referring to PCIe 1.0 vs. 2.0. Tell me what board you have or are planing to get and I can tell you if it has 1.0 or 2.0. But most cards are backward compatible.

Its got a PCIe 1.1 slot. Unless your going to run a top end video card its not going to make any performance difference.

How would it perform with an Asus EN9400GT/DI/1GD2 CUDA DDR2 1GB? (funny thing is, I believe this card has a PCIe 2.0 so I guess I should change a motherboard...?) Setting aside the fact of a quad core processor and (2GB DDR2) x 2 memory cards.

With a 9400GT, not any difference. Probable with a 9800GT and above you get a few FPS hit. PCIe 2.0 doubled the bandwidth, but with lowerend cards, they never used up PCIe 1.0 bandwidth. So with a 9400GT you would not notice any difference.
