Pdf downloads into wordpad/ cannot read download

HP desktop w/ windows 7 installed/ Microsoft office 2007/ Adobe is downloaded and when I attempt to download a document, the document is downloaded to Wordpad and is in a computer language that I cannot understand...
Where do I change it form Wordpad to Microsoft word?
What do I need to do to be able to read documents in PDF?

They shouldn't open in Wordpad. Try changing what program they are associated with. I'll help later with that, I have to get off.
 
Yes, thank you/ that is what I have been looking for/ I am not familiar with windows 7/ where do I change the program? In xp it asks what program I want to open it with. Windows 7 it doesn't...

I have XP. Try right clicking the file, and it should say something along the lines of "open with", then hit adobe reader from there.
