Pentium 4 550 high temps?

yes thats a bit high, unfortunately with the 550 and up you will need to use watercooling to bring the heat down (or put it in a freezer :D), air cooling just can't handle the heat generated by the prescott at those speeds

The 550 I had back at christmas wasnt that bad ... 52C stressed... what cooling do you have on the 550? Stock?

well now its idleing at around 55, from the asus motherboard monitor software. its idleing a little lower, maybe the arctic silver i used needs more time to settle in.

im using a swiftech mcx-775 heatsink, with a thermal take led smart fan.

I dont think so i put some about the size of a small grain of rice and then i put te heat sink on and then rotated it a little both ways (Exactly like the arctic silver website) then i lifted it up to sheck how much coverage i got and it didnt spread anywhere, so i put another small grain of rice size blob on and spread it a little bit, put the heatsink on, rotated, and then mounted it.I might hae done something wrong there, im not really sure. But i can be sure its not the fans, the thermaltake smart fan pushes 72.5 cfm at 4800 rpm. I have the fan set at 4000 rpm.

Thanks for letting me know that your 550 idled at around 52. id like to really lower that temp, the fan is really loud. Also i read that the mcx775 is an amazing heatsink.

After i finish playing half life 2/ counterstrike source for about 9 or 10 hours my temp is at about 70 (using the asus motherboard tool). If i let it sit for about half an hour after that it idles at around 49 - 51. This is all at 4000 rpm.
