I know, I know... "Pentium 4 is obsolete! Just buy a new computer! blah blah blah..." Well guess what? I want a P4 system! Just wondering if you guys think this is a good way to go with parts :D

By the way, I will not be doing any heavy gaming. Games like Warrock, CS:S, and TF2 keep me occupied for hours.

I am planning to take the processor, and CD/DVD drive off my original computer. (Signature)

Is your P4 with LGA 775/ 478? Double check before you purchase the motherboard.
BTW, I do recommend dirt cheap AMD AM3 over your P4...

GT220 won't worth $79. 4670 or 5570 is better for that budget.

There's really no point in going P4 now. For the price, you can get a newer, vastly more powerful system. Even the AMD Sempron 140, at $33, is faster than any P4. It's also 45W, and has a chance of unlocking a second core.

Now that I think of it, I might go with an AMD Sempron build (the new one of course)... I'm only going with upgrading my p4 because I'm very tight on money right now, and just want something to play my low end games.

But yeah, my P4 is socket 478
 
Depending on what the system is used for, P4's are not obsolete. It's always cool to do a legacy build for fun or even just to have. I've a P4 setup all boxed up in my closet in case I ever need to test parts from another older system. If you want to do one, do one, don't cave to the pressure of folks telling you it's not worth it - they won't be using it, you will :)
