pentium 4 question

That depends what your doing with your PC, as in intel fan im gonna say P4's are great, but go with core 2 dup as it is a lot better.... it rally depends on what your doing, and what your budget is, if your builidng a £300 work machine then a P4 is brilliant for you, if your building an extreme £2000 gaming rig, then perhaps you should be looking at Core 2 Duo....

i love Pentium 4! they are not the newest, but still good. Dual core are fantastic, but they are not necessery, unless you use lots of multiple programs or run to screens. but if you can get dual core then good for you!

i got a P4, i just use it 4 internet, and some games...

dont think P4's are outdated..

Well yours is a much older version of the P4. The newer ones are still very good, however the P4 technology is becoming outdated.

They are still great for multi-tasking and normal use, however it's not the best choice for gamers.

yeah i know, you mean mines the older of P4? and P4 Dual-Core what ever are the newer 1's? i only use mine 4 internet and crap, works well...

Omega didn't mean dual-core, he ment the P4s that are 2.8ghz-3.4ghz, which is a lot faster than yours are and are a different socket too, i think. Also i don't think the older ones had hyper-threading

Thats pretty much what I was saying.

JP, you have the older Northwood P4's, however the newer Cedar Mill P4's are much better.

are p4's really outdated, or what are some opinions on purchasing a p4? waste of money?

Pentium 4's are starting to become outdated because of all the new processors come out. If you are going to be multitasking P4 would be good if you are gaming then amd will be better. But i used to be a intel fan but for right now i am an amd fan. the amd that is in my sig outperforms my P4 @2.8ghz in gaming and multitasking. So if you want to spend a little more get amd.

Depends what you are using it for.
e.g. P4 use it for basic use, word processing, internet and what ever
AMD
e.g. Games, and basic use

Its more a question of what you are going to use it for and how long you want it to last

ok, the Cdear Mill's are different socket?

I have a P4 and I use it for Quake 4 and everything else (and it flies). I do not know what you guys are going on about AMD being the only thing for gaming.

I always get a chuckle out of thinking that AMD is for people that can't afford an Intel. hehe

I have a P4 for gaming as well, it gets the job done but I would much rather have an AMD for gaming, a few months ago.

Not anymore though, I would much rather have an Intel for gaming now.
