Pentium 4

I am currently running a Pentium 4 on a Foxconn 661fx7mf motherboard but I want an upgrade. I searched for compatible processors and found that the only 2 are Pentium 4 and Pentium D. Is it worth it to upgrade my motherboard to make it compatible with core duo processors? or is the pentium D better? (I think buying a whole new computer is not an option)

You may find a Pentium D in eBay for pretty cheap, those definitely are an upgrade as they're dual-core CPUs unlike P4s which are single-core. As for C2Ds as an upgrade, well, according to all sites I've seen it only supports P4&Ds but there's a slight chanca I've missed something and that they've released a BIOS update, but probably not. It may be worth looking up the specs on foxconn's website, though.

If you need a C2D, then it's probably worth it to spend the money on a new MoBo. However, if you only want a little performance boost, then keep what you have and just grab a D-series. I'd personally look for a 9xx over an 8xx though, as they ran cooler and were more efficient.
