Pentium 4?

Screw the Pentium 4, go with a Pentium D 930. The best processor out at the moment for price and performance. Only $190 plus it's dual core

neither of you
i say wait
if you want to build a PC that will hold on with windows Vista and future apps
wait until conroe comes out
if you cant afford conroe , it will make other prices drop anyway
so you're gonna regret it that you didnt wait

Bear in mind that the high end Conroe systems will be VERY expensive.... ive seen prices pridicted at about $1200; i dont care who you are thats a lot of money.

I would wait until the next lot of CPU's come out and see what the prices are like and weigh up the options then

If you are looking for a dual core processor then go with Pentium D, it is much cheaper than the AMD processors with dual core. Howeer if you want to use your comp for gaming i would consider edging towards an AMD

Well if you're willing to pay $185 for a processor id go with AMD 3500+, but if you cant afford that then go with the 3200+, that goes for about $130

haha it all depends on how you look at it..
if you want a good multithreading, overclockable, cheap chip then get the pentium d 930, or even the pentium d 805.
don't get a Pentium 4 though.
Conroe will be a lot better than any Pentium ever was. the Pentium 3 had good architecture, and so did the pentium m... but pentium is an older name and will be outdated soon.
i'd get a pentium d, athlon 64, athlon 64 x2, or just wait for conroe.
what'll you be doing with it?
surfing the internet? if so, a sempron will do just fine haha
i was thinking of going with the 3000+ and overclocking it to up to a 3200+, or 3200+ up to a 3500+
some have overclocked a 3000+ to 2.8ghz btw
theyre all the same, the only difference is the model # and the highest multiplier that you can choose.

Go with the 3200+, it can be clocked up to about 2500MHz(safe). If you have water cooling you can clock it into the region of 3000MHz

If money wasn't an issue then for me it would be the Pentium D 930 hands down, but if you cant afford $190 then i would go for the best that you can afford

$297 and some change for:
AMD Athlon 64 3000+ (does it come with a stock cooler?)
BIOSTAR K8T890 S939 Mobo
1GB Kingston ValueRAM DDR400
Case
PSU

Im going to hold off for a while on a graphics card and just use one that i have, then im going to get either a 7600GS or a 7600GT. I have a HDD, only a month old, but im going to wait till Vista to get a new one.

yes ofcourse it comes with a cooler
and you have been here long enough to know that right now Gaming=AMD
and good choice for the 7600, either of them, but just a little bit more money and get the GT it's better
