I recently got a pentium d 820 (2.8). Now, I was wondering what the best method is for applying thermal paste and if it's better to apply it to the whole chip or just part of it? Pictures would be nice.

What kind of thermal paste I should use for it? Arctic Silver 5?

When operating with gc heatsink paste, on idle, the temp was 51 degrees celsius. What is the normal operating temp, both for idle, and complete cpu usage. Any help would be great. Thanks and later.

You'll want a new heatsink and fan. The stock one is crap, which is why your temps are so high. I got a Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro for $17 from Newegg for my PD 805. Also get Arctic Silver 5 Thermal Compound. The best way to apply the paste is to put a drop about the size of a pea in the center of the CPU and gentley sit the heatsink down on top and clip it into place. Pentium D's run hot so temps aren't going to be all that great. I idle around 37-40 and under load I'm usually around 45-49.
