what is the best all rounder pentium d say AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual-Core 4200 2.2Ghz Socket 939 v Intel Pentium® D 840 Dual core 2x3.2GHz 800FSB both same price thanks

Bah! I'd go with the AMD. I haven't seen bechmarks for them, but I would predict the AMD would be much faster.

depends on what you are doing amd for gaming intel for multitasking

He said the best ALL-AROUND, and I have no clue, and no facts to back it up, so i'd just go with AMD cuzim a fanboy.

i think a amd DUEL CORE would own at multi tasking anyways -_-

I dont think u can still apply the same - amd for gaming intel for multitasking when u get to duel cores~

anyways, i would choose amd cuz they simply own

Of the two I'd probably go the AMD route, well depending on the price diff.

Heh even the fastest X2 AMD at 2.4Ghz is still slower than Intels slowest D 830 at 3Ghz. But as stated many times already, speed doesn't always equate performance.

The X2 AMD performs very nice in multitasking as well, due to it's dual cores.

Bright plan..

That is not what I meant. I didn't mean "faster" as in Ghz, I meant it as in performance fast (i.e. games).

dual core only does you any good with multithreaded apps and games, most right now arnt and as a single core its not that fast, havnt seen the benchies but i'm pretty sure 1 core is slower than pentium D and both wont be that much noticably faster. but if you plan on having this for quite some time then dual core would be a good choice.
