Pentium D vs C2D

Ok, I've been thinking that the C2D E6300 that I have is running I guess, Slower than it should. Because my board only has a FSB of 800mhz and the cpu has one of 1066. Would putting a Pentium D 940 3.2 ghz and ocing be a better processor than a E6300 at 1.4 ghz? Also, another thing that I'm worrying about is that when I bump up the FSB to 266 mhz to get 1.86 with the C2D it ocs my ram to 709mhz. And it isn't always stable.

No it's not. :P I gots a Pentium D 940 laying around. It's brand new OEM. I got it as part payment for work. And besides the 1066 mhz board i want is a ds3 and that's about 190$ AUD.
 
Well first off, the E6300 runs at 1.86Ghz.

And you can go ahead and use the 940 and overclock it, and it may perform similar to the E6300 stock.
 
The E6300 is a better choice. When you overclock you actually increase the FSB so you can make that up, with my OC my FSB is 1600 MHZ.

But mine isn't running at stock speed, it's running at 1.4 ghz stable. At stock speed it runs unstable. So I'm comparing an e6300 at 1.4ghz to a pentium d 940 @ 3.2ghz
 
Meh, I"m going to have to stick with the E6300 since the D940 didn't want to play. It was idling at 80C according to BIOS and PC Wizard at stock compared to 28C from the C2D Idle.
 
If it's your RAM giving you problems at the faster speed, just use a memory divider to reduce its speed.
 
Go into the BIOS, then go into MB Intelligent Tweaker (M.I.T) (you may need to press Ctrl+F1 to see this option, it's the same place you adjust the clock speed). Find the option that says System Memory Multiplier. Reduce it to a number such that the Memory Frequency is below the stock (try 2.00, for example).
