With some Pentium D's they say 800 something i.e. Pentium D 820 2.8Ghz others are in the 900's i.e. Pentium D 930 3Ghz. what does this number mean?

The numbers simply refer to Intel's new model rating, similar to AMD with their 3200+ for instance.

The differences between the 830 and 930, is that the 930 has a 65nm process, and twice the cache (hence the higher number).
