Pentium III Fan...

Well first off hello to everyone again, haven't been here in a few months

Ok I have acquired this old IBM NetVista machine which has a P III Coppermine that runs at 866 Mhz.

The fan that sits on top of it is a bit noisy. Do fans get louder when there about to die? I have looked around TigerDirect and have found this: http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=578002&Tab=0&NoMapp=0 as a replacement.

Will it work on the IBM motherboard (even to plug into the motherboards power connector)?

Here are some pics. of the fan that's in the machine right now and the connector to that fan (the sticker on top of the fan says FOXCONN):

Thanks for any help

Processor fan power connections are pretty standard. The 3 pin in the picture is what they always (or usually) are.
As for the cooler, yeah it looks like that will work. I recommend going to your local computer store and getting one though. Don't want to have a easily obtainable part shipped to you!

true, but sometimes its cheaper to order it though id rather save money, but thats up to u if u can wait the 3 days id get the one u were looking at on newegg, if not run to a pc shop around ur area

If you just want a new fan, I suspect that's a 60mm(pretty common for processors around this era) Though the one you linked looks fine and isn't all that expensive... Plug's your typical 3 pin fan plug. I have an old IBM P3 board and it didn't even HAVE a fan(but has the plug) I added one later on. They are totally standard, and fit in a standard ATX case, even use an ATX PSU(should you ever decide to do a swap ;) )

Hehe...yeah, you go and try that :P My 733MHz was originally passively cooled, but the fan from the PSU was ported directly on it. Besides that, the heatsync on it was MUCH larger than a socket processor(Slot1) I seriously doubt an 866 would run at decent temps without proper cooling.

I've ordered a lot of stuff from Tiger and It's never been stolen before (knock on wood)

Thanks guys for your replies. I will be purchasing that one form Tiger and I hope it works.

I didn't mean someone would steal it! I meant that you could go to your local store instead of paying for shipping.
