Pentium P4 3.0GHz

Im re-building a P4 system for my sister, Does this overclock well?
Also can any1 suggest some good bang for buck memory?
Its a foxconn mobo and will be running xp, She mainly just surfs the web so 2gb will probably surfice?
 
When you say, "Re-Building" what do you mean? Like, did you pull those parts from an existing system (say...a Dell or HP?). If so, then you won't be able to overclock it because Dell purposely locks the overclocking features.

If not, then I'm not sure. I've never overclocked a P4. As far as I know though, they seem to get pretty hot. I've got a 3.0 P4 with HT and it get can pretty hot by itself. And even if you could overclock it, I'm not sure you could get it much higher than it already is.

I really like G.Skill RAM. You can usually get some pretty good combo deals from them. And 2GB will be fine for her if she just does the basic music, web, and word type things.
 
Eh. I wouldn't go that far. I've got a 1gb in my Pentium 4. It holds up really well. The younger kids use it for games and internet, homework, etc. She could do fine with 1GB, but there's nothing wrong with 2GB. And considering the rise in memory usage in all programs lately as well as the drop in price recently, there's no reason not to.
 
I recently upgraded my P4 from 628mb to 2 gb of DDR memory - and ther'e sa noticable difference on web pages loading - with lots of content.

Money well spent in IMHO.
 
If your "rebuilding" it for your sister you shouldn't over clock it. If she's not a computer tech/nerd then it's best to leave everything standard. It will only make problems for you to solve in the future and piss her off when it breaks.
 
Yeah, I doubt an overclock is necessary, although I have heard some architectures of a p4 being really good overclockers. Either way, finding parts for that dinosaur that would be worthwhile may be a challenge. Depending on how much you already have vs. how much you have to buy, a cheap AMD dual core build might be a better idea and perform a good deal better. If not, make sure all the parts oyu pick up are out dated enough to work with the board haha.
 
Thanks for all the tips guys, I think i'll just leave it standard and upgrade the memory to 2gb dual channel ddr2
