Pentium :)

I reckon that an intel Pentium Dual Core E6500 (£61.99) will run pretty much any game (with 4GB Ddr2 RAM, 1GB GPU :) am i to be proved wrong? Pentium = gaming? post ur opinions

It will yes, however within a year or so, you will nearly need a quad core to game, much like how now a single core CPU isn't raelly up to the task any more

Will it run any game? Yes, technically. However it will not run a game as well as if you had a Core 2 Duo / i5 / i7.

And Pentium = budget processor, the i5's and i7's are best for gaming.

Ok then, I'm on a budget, what would you suggest? Im luving the rig btw; that must have cost a BOMB :D 2GB gDDR5!? awesome

Keep in mind this guy it is talking about the Pentium Dual Core. These CPU's are 45nm wolfdales. I have seen lots of people think Pentium D which is a 65nm dual core pentium 4, or a 65nm core 2 duo.

Kind of intel's fault for using the same name for two chips. (think E6300...)

Most Pentium dual cores are, as Linkin said are essentially C2Ds

fastdude, you can get an E6500 for cheaper than £62:

http://www.overclock.co.uk/product/...Hz-2Mb-Cache-1066FSB-SKT775-Retail_25543.html

If you are on a budget though, AMD is the way to go. Still ~£62, but will go on an AM3 board (or AM2+ if you already have your DDR2 memory) so you have better upgradability:

http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/AMD-...-S-AM3-29GHz-15MB-Cache-HT-2000MHz-95W-Retail

Also, when you say 1GB GPU, that means nothing at all. It depends on which graphics card it is, not just the video memory. You can get 1GB 8600GT's. Because of the speed of the chip though and because it is only 128 bit, it will never take advantage of that much. A 512mb 4870 will beat it hands down, even with half the amount of memory

And the point we're making is that they use the same core. lots of people confuse them with older chips which someimtes just peeves me right off :o

Yes, but they have less cache and a slower bus speed.

they aren't as fast as a labeled C2D, no because of the reasons you said, but they are still a C2D just with a different name

C2D with a crippled cache ;)

And no, they won't run every game... ever played GTA IV? :D

Yes i have, 18fps while driving :( but that is purely the games fault. Crysis runs great on this thing, specially now @ 4ghz.

Omega, i just couldn't resist and it matches perfectly with annoying orange! :D
