Pentuim 4 vs. Dual core

I am going to buy a new laptop within the next few months and I currently have a pentuim 4 3.0ghz processor. I have recently noticed that very few if any laptops still come with the p4 processor and I was wondering what would be a good replacement, I am wanting a laptop, but raw power exceeds portability such as weight and battery life. I need a lot of power for things such as gaming, 3d video rendering, and running large calculations in programs such as mathcad. I have heard some good things about the celeron duo core but was wondering what other people have experienced in terms of power.

The P4 power is very good. There are still some desktop replacements with P4 lingering on the market. I myself, would rather have a Duo Core processor, because it's handles just about everything I need flawlessly without a hitch. I mean without looking at the numbers, the duo core runs a lot smoother. As for gaming, it's a toss up. I haven't gamed much with the newer duo core chips, but when it came to design programs like Photoshop and Illustrator, it ran wonderfully. Transfering large clipboards from one to the other was very quick. Other factors in my decision is better battery life, less heat and a more portable unit.

The Core Duo processor is very nice. From what I have heard it is quite powerful. It is better on battery life since its mobile, and im pretty sure its better than a P4 on battery life. I would definitly go with the Core Duo.

Yes the Core Duo is very good, its by far one of the best laptop CPU's in terms of number of mathamatical equations. And since it has lower clock speeds and is a 65nm core, it runs cooler and uses less power.

Dual Core offers you better speed.
I don’t know how much battery consume per hour but I tested one at a computers showroom and is very fast.
