ok let me jsut throw soehting out for you right now:

CPU: get a dual core or quad (DO NOT GET THE AMD PHENOM, ITS A FLOP)
MoBo: don't know yet if you can choose your own mobo when BUYING a computr
HDD: harddrive should be atleas 100gb...i'm using a 40gb right now, but i have my external..
RAM: i would get atleast 2gb
USB: 6 ports
alienwares are ok...so r blackbirds..but all in all ide rather build my own :)

I would suggest that your build your own, you have more control and save money, so its a win win situation for you.
Yeah the processor should be at least dual core, I would recommend the E6600. Regarding the RAM, I would think 2GB would be an overkill, you don't need that much for just a normal computer. 1GB would be more than enough if you don't plan to do any gaming on the computer, if you do plan to game then get 2GB of RAM, that would be a MAX, anything over 2GB is just a waste of money. I have 2GB of RAM and no game has ever used more than 1.5GB of RAM.

im sorry, but i disagree with almost everything you say there. first of all, he said it will be used for gaming, and 2GB of RAM is definitely not overkill. and who in their right mind would recommend the e6600? its way overpriced and there are much better performing core 2 duos for less. the only thing i agree with is that he should definitely build his own. :D

Then what do you recommend for an intel processor. i want a cheap one that'll overclock to at least 3.4 stable with room

Hi,

Things to look for with gaming machine.

CPU: dual core 2 or the latest quadro one. As mention earlier not an AM2 it is a flop even if AMD is better for gaming. If you still want AMD for their special gaming CPU then wait the nest generation.

CPU Fan: Very important to get a good fan, your CPU will work like crazy if you are a true gamer.

Power supply: The most important in my opinion. Be sure your power supply will handle the juice need by your hardware. I am not talking about the Watt here but the voltage support by the power supply. 450W is bad if it does not support good voltages.

Video card: At least 250MB, 512 for very smooth play in wow as example.

Memory: nothing under 1GB, 2GB for best performances, and try to get low latency one. It is the best for gaming.

Case: Do not go for a flashy look one, Antec have good cases with good power supplies in. Of course they cost more.

I think it is all the most important things to look for.

Have fun gamer,

I second Cleric. Go for a 45nm if possible, or the E6750. 2GB is NOT overkill. When I'm gaming, I have only around 25% of memory left, with FireFox, Halo 2, and Windows Media Player.

Why would you recommend 1GB if you know that games can use up to 1.5GB?
