performance difference between dual and quad

Is there a huge difference in performance from a intel dual core to a quad core? and do any apps other than some games utilize all four?

If you have a high end dual core vs a Q6600 in gaming i doubt you would notice a difference, and some games don't even utilize 4 cores. But the major gain would be multitasking IMO

Say your running burning a cd in iTunes, 3 tabs in firefox, copying files, downloading, and watching a movie. Would there be any difference between an e6750 and a q6600? And does Vista utilize the quad cores well?

What sort of program combinations will max out an e6750, but not a q6600?

That's not an opinion, that's a fact. ;)

That would be cool to have that multitasking ability, my computer runs like crap when I am burning a cd.

It's hella cool. You can do a lot of stuff simotaneously (lol didn't feel like spell checkin) w/ a quad core. It's awesome. :D

So what sorts of programs do you have to run at the same time to utilize a q6600's cores?

And how much can you do on a e6750?

It looks like you're in a dilemma between the Q6600 and the E6750. I'm not disregarding you're question - it's a good one. If you can afford the extra $100 for the Q6600, I would definitely get it. If you can't, the E6750 will adequately handle all your multitasking.

If you like to read lengthy articles written by computer scientists' (lol), click here. It describes multi-core computing.
