Performance difference on these processors?

Not the hex core if you get a decent board it's all about the same.

That is what I asking about, which is the decent board and which is not? what is the different? can you give me two example. maybe two link on newegg.com for these two board? so the i7 930 quad core will beat the 6 core amd with windows applications like 6 open together?
Thank you.

Depends on what you want. For AMD, the 890FX chipset is the best right now-

For intel Socket 1366, you can't even really buy a crappy board they are all loaded with features, so just buy a cheaper one but make sure it still have USB 3.0 and sata 6gb/s (that costs a little extra but it will be more futureproof)-

I'd stay away from anything that doesn't have USB 3.0, sata 6gb/s, and DDR3 ram. You should probably get a board with atleast 2 PCIe X16 slots, and also with whatever else slots you need.

Oh and yes I think the I7 will laugh at 6 apps open. You have to remember, each core is stronger that each AMD core....so each core can handle more. Also, the OS actually see's 8 cores with the I7.

I would still get the I7 930 over the AMD hex core.

+1 s
ince the amd hex core wasnt performing well in the gaming section and it performance was a better in the 3d rendering section everyone made it a big deal that amd hex core is good in 3d rendering but according to the benchmarks the core i7 930 is still better

Guys, you are making out as though he is going to see some godly difference with one over the other.

Because all he is doing is number crunching, which is what CPUs do best, it doesn't matter, it isn't strenuous work, just alot of it, so I would say more cores is better.

However, as 87dtna said, with the i7, Windows will see 8 cores rather than 4, because of 2 threads per core, and that may be the better option.

Both the 1090T and the 920 will handle what you want to do fine, just find out which is the cheaper option (for the board, CPU and memory) and go for that, because you will not notice any difference at all, but will save yourself a bit of money
