Performance increase?

I'm thinking about picking up a 2GB PC2-6700 (800Mhz) Ram kit (2x 1GB).. I currently have 4x 512Mb PC2-4200 installed and it's quick, but I need a little boost..

My current setup;

MSI K9NBPM2-FID Mobo
AMD x2 3800+
2GB PC2-4200
Dual Seagate Barracuda 7200.10's (16MB cache versions)
Hipro PSU (450w I believe)
Vista Ultimate x86

I've had my cpu @ 2.8Ghz in the past with little gain.. so I'm either very picky, or my Ram appears to be the bottleneck.

As for speed increase, I'm looking for a general increase in speed (application loading times, paging, etc).. my system isn't slow as it is, but, as with most of you, I needed a reason to upgrade, so I made this one up :D

Thoughts?

PS: I'm also considering going RAID, since I have two identical drives and a board that supports it.. which RAID would I run for better disc performance?

i have absolutely no problems with vista ultimate with my setup, it was a breeze to find the drivers too.

i dont think a ram speed increase is really worth it, its time to start thinking about a new build if that system isnt providing enough juice, or maybe upgrade to a dual core CPU.

2GB of ram are nothing but the minimum to run Vista decently. IMO

Also, is your comp compatible with PC6700 ram?? If not, then theres no point. And I don't think you would really notice a difference from 4x512 to 2x1024

It's not that it doesn't provide enough juice, I just think I could get more out of it with a few minor upgrades here and there.. as is, I have no issues with it.

The cpu I currently have is dual core (AMD x2 3800+).. I'm thinking about upgrading it, but not sure to what right now.. I had an offer for a 5600+ today for a decent price, otherwise I might look into the quads and a new board if need be in the near future..

As for Vista, same here.. the only issue I've had is a driver for an older wifi card I had, but that wouldn't work because the drivers for it were packaged incorrectly at Belkin.. making the .exe file inside of the zip unusable.. other than that, I, too, have had no problems with Vista :)

As for the rest of you; I have 2GB already, and I never go above 1200MB used (regardless of the app(s) I'm running).. the only issue at hand here is whether or not I could benefit from RAM that is clocked higher than my current setup.
