My system is as follows:
gigabyte GA-7VT600-P-(-L) mobo
athlon xp 2600+
512mb pc3200(edit*dual channel not supported by mobo)
msi 5700le 256mb(oc'd to 400/500)
80gb 7200rpm drive
cdrw(52x read speed)

I have an empty ram slot so I bought a 512mb stick of pc3200 tonight on ebay and I was wondering what kind of performance increase I will see in the following after upgrading to a gig:
1-General internet & MSN messenger with itunes running(already running well imo)
2-Half Life 2 & HL2 deathmatch
3-Battlefield vietnam and POE mod
4-BF1942 and DC mod

Well for starters you'd lose dual channel mode

For general performance (and to a degree, gaming perofmrnace) , it depends on how much memory you have free.

actually I just found out/am pretty sure that my mobo doesn't even support dual channel. Mine's a kt600 and I've been reading that dual channel wasn't added until the kt800 series. Plus usually 2 slots will be the same colour(that mark the dual channel slots) and the other will be different, on my mobo all the ram slots are blue. So the only thing I'd notice by adding more ram is an increase. I guess I will worry about dual channel when I upgrade to socket 939 and an amd64 in a year or so.
