Performance issues after reassembly

I recently disassembled my rig to clean out all the dust. I used a duster specifically designed for use with electronics. I pretty much only used the duster on the fans and the PSU. I put everything back together and my computer seems to be working fine except for two things. There is a slight distortion of sound that occurs rhythmically about every 0.5 seconds, like a small spurt of static. I checked the speakers and tried using headphones, to no avail. I thought maybe the onboard sound had been damaged or failed, so I bought a sound card (which I have yet to install).

Seems I acted too quickly. The other problem I just noticed: a slight visual distortion that occurs to the same rhythm as the sound distortion. When playing TF2, everything works fine aside from a slight visual lag about every half second. Same for Portal 2, when playing offline.

These problems must be related to each other, and I'm also thinking they're related to the disassembly I recently did as they didn't exist before. Might I have physically damaged something? I did drop a screw onto the mobo while removing the GPU, but it was not from very high. Afngkdh;kjfnd;knhmgjd

I don't think it would have been damaged by the screw. One thing you could try is resetting the Cmos by taking the battery out and leaving it out for 5 mins before you put it back in. Also whilst you are in there and waiting for the 5 mins to go by check again for anything loose or damaged.

Resetting the CMOS seems to have made the problems go away. Thanks for your help.

It's amazing what a CMOS clear can do - besides resetting your time to the boards date of manufacture :D
