Performance issues

I recently built a new machine,a core 2 quad Q8200 2.33-4 MB L2 cache-
2 GB of RAM (Pqi)400 Mhz-Biostar G31-M7G DVI Motherboard,
my choice of mothrboard and ram would have been different if it wernt for some technical problems ($$ ) its not a bad system but it dont feel like a quad core system if you know what i mean,i never owed one before so im a bit confused .any ideas? Thanks!

So your saying it feels slower than it should be? maybe it's your RAM. It's at quite a low speed. Are you familiar with Overclocking? Btw, that CPU is getting old

i thought it was the ram also ,it's hard with this processor to get past 2.6.or so i read.i use this machine for Photoshop mostly and abit of 3ds max,on 3ds max its a little faster than my hp dv5 series laptop amd zm80 2.1 4GB ram the most problematic series ever.too much heat and alot of bsod, im not sure about the board its a budget board.first time i own a biostar ,i really like Gigabyte,my old machine is 10 years old never had any problems it still runs great wich is a gigabyte p4 2.93.it runs slower than expected
