Performance Reduction...

After reviewing hundreds of mobo's for my computer I realized a problem with many SLi motherboards. Whenever you SLi them, the 2 x16 slots turn into 2 x8 slots! I almost settled with 2 or 3 of them for my final setup, but good thing I caught it...:( . I was wondering, does the DFI LAN Party do this? I would hope it wouldn't since its one of the higher grade motherboards on the market.

In almost all Sli motherboards, when you put two graphic cards in SLI, the slots run at 8x; it is NOT a bug or anything like that, that is how the first version of SLI works.

Now there is a new version of SLI which can run the two graphic cards at 16x but it is used only in very few mobos, such as Asus A8N32-Sli Deluxe. Why ? Because the 16x is not worth it, no modern graphic card uses the entire bandwith, with 8x is more than enough.

And as far as I know, DFI doesn't have any model that supports 16x Sli, but if I were you, I wouldn't worry about it and it shouldn't be a decisive thing to take into account when buying a mobo.

Yeah dont worry about it, true 16 lane SLi will only offer like 5 more FPS.

Almost all top models today are still based on 8 lane SLi chipset.

I would choose the DFI eXpert over the A8N32-SLI Deluxe, the only board based on the 16X SLi chipset. Its also $220 and has been out of stock for months.

But do you think that I will eventually need true x16 PCI-E slots? Or by the time I really need them it will be time for a new computer?

I wouldnt worry about it. By the time you want to SLi there will probably be a better single card solution.

You can never be sure with computer hardware, but I believe that, as you said, by the time 16x SLI is really required it will be time for a new pc.
The fact that a new technology is launched (like in this case 16x SLI) doesn't mean it really is neccesary or worthy.

Ahh I see... so overall is this a pretty decent system? One that can run most if not all the games? And as soon as I get this setup I'm going to be playing the best games out there... and one that I have been waiting for a WHILE to be able to play... WoW... and then I will install Black & White 2... so what do you think?

I have Black and White 2 and it will most definitely run on your system and then some. QWith that setup you'll be set for gaming for quite some time and video encoding if you do that. With a 250GB HDD you should be set for all the game you could buy. Make sure to get a new PSU since the NZXT stock PSUs aren't very good and will probably fail to power your system. I would recommend an Antec Smartpower 2.0 450watt or 500watt.

Thanks dude. However, many reviews have said that the Lexa's PSU is pretty good.. but you're right. I want to get one of those PSU that are like see-through and put even more neon into my system. :D

The system in your sig is excelent, you'll be able to play any present and upcoming game without trouble.

The only thing that maybe you could change is the RAM for other RAM with lower latencies (the best would be 2-2-2-5).
