Pesky browser problems

Hello there.

I have recently begun encountering several browser problems, which are:

- Any type of video components anywhere on the web (youtube, facebook, liveleak,...) tend to pause at certain times for 30 seconds or so. These times are usually 0:00, 0:03 and 0:07. The video sometimes plays to 0:07 without sound, then after some time the sound plays from 0:00 until it catches up with the video and then the video plays normally.

- Magnet links don't work for me at all, this is especially annoying because downloading torrents is a no-go for me at the moment

- I suspect that gifs need longer to load than before. This otherwise shouldn't be a problem because i have a fairly new and capable PC.

- Some components that use popup windows do not work. I use Joomla to moderate a website and some of the tools that are used for posting articles use popup windows (editing the HTML of the article, uploading images etc.). The problem is that the popup windows that open are simply empty.

I am running on windows 8.1 at the moment and i use Google Chrome as my default browser, even though the same problems occur if i try Internet Explorer.

Thanks in advance!

Have you recently installed any programs that could have installed a malicious/unwanted add-on in both Chrome and IE? In Chrome, navigate to both Chrome://extensions and Chrome://plugins in the address bar and give us a readout of each page.

I suppose you could try disabling the Battlelog Game Launcher to see if that helps, although it seems like that's not your problem. You should probably try downloading and running Malwarebytes to see if it finds anything. Do you currently have any sort of antivirus outside of Windows Defender? It shouldn't technically matter too much, though, since Windows Defender is actually quite good in Windows 8.

Upon disabling every plugin one by one the problem persisted. I have AVG installed but i did try with malwarebytes and nothing came up. Is it possible that the problem hides somewhere else? I've had other issues with my PC which could be connected. I've bought this computer first-hand 4 months ago but i've already had 5 cases of BSOD and one time windows wouldn't even start anymore which forced me to rollback windows to a previous point. I've also had problems with graphics drivers not working correctly etc.

Please do the following and post the logs.

1.

Please download AdwCleaner by Xplode onto your Desktop.

•Please close all open programs and internet browsers.
•Double click on adwcleaner.exe to run the tool.
•Click on Scan.
•After the scan you will need to click on clean for it to delete the adware.
•Your computer will be rebooted automatically. A text file will open after the restart.
•Please post the content of that logfile in your reply.
•You can find the logfile at C:\AdwCleaner[Sn].txt as well - n is the order number.

2.

Please download Junkware Removal Tool to your desktop.

•Shutdown your antivirus to avoid any conflicts.
•Very important that you run the tool in this manner:
Right-mouse click JRT.exe and select Run as administrator
Do NOT just double-click it.
•The tool will open and start scanning your system.
•Please be patient as this can take a while to complete.
•On completion, a log (JRT.txt) is saved to your desktop and will automatically open.
•Post the contents of JRT.txt in your next message.

3.

Please download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and save it to your desktop.
  • Double-click mbam-setup.exe and follow the prompts to install the program.
  • At the end, be sure a checkmark is placed next to
    • Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware
    • and Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware
  • then click Finish.
  • If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version. Please keep updating until it says you have the latest version.
  • Once the program has loaded, select Perform quick scan, then click Scan.
  • When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
  • Be sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
  • A log will be saved automatically which you can access by clicking on the Logs tab within Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware

If for some reason Malwarebytes will not install or run please download and run Rkill.scr, Rkill.exe, or Rkill.com. If you are still having issues running rkill then try downloading these renamed versions of the same program.

EXPLORER.EXE
IEXPLORE.EXE
USERINIT.EXE
WINLOGON.EXE

But DO NOT reboot the system and then try installing or running Malwarebytes. If Rkill (which is a black box) appears and then disappears right away or you get a message saying rkill is infected, keep trying to run rkill until it over powers the infection and temporarily kills it. Once a log appears on the screen, you can try running malwarebytes or downloading other programs.

Please post the log that Malwarebytes displays on your screen.

4.

Download OTL to your Desktop

•Double click on the icon to run it. Make sure all other windows are closed and to let it run uninterrupted.
•Click on Minimal Output at the top
•Click the Quick Scan button. Do not change any settings unless otherwise told to do so. The scan wont take long.
◦When the scan completes, it will open two notepad windows. OTL.Txt and Extras.Txt. These are saved in the same location as OTL. Just post the OTL.txt file in your reply.

So in your original thread asking for help, please give us a short description of what the problem is and then post the logs from the following 4 programs.

1. Adwcleaner
2. Junkware removal tool
3. Malwarebytes
4. OTL

Also to find out why you are getting blue screens do this.

Download BlueScreenView
No installation required.
Unzip downloaded file and double click on BlueScreenView.exe file to run the program.
When scanning is done, go Edit>Select All.
Go File>Save Selected Items, and save the report as BSOD.txt.
Open BSOD.txt in Notepad, copy all content, and paste it into your next reply.
