phantom of the virus

i'm running a ME and i've formatted it two times yet every time i start it up it freezes and i'm forced to shut down the computer and format it. then it works for a while and then boom it does it again. what should i do?

Do you get any error messages or anything. Sounds like dodgy ram or possibly mobo but error codes or messages could help

wish i'd had parent like that.

As for your problem, its important to identify at what point you are having touble. I recommend
Install fresh copy your OS (after a format of course)
Boot pc. Keep using for a period of time without installing anything including drivers just use the generic ones that windows provides! See if your problem rears its head again.
Then install all your drivers, get latest versions online.
Again run you machine for a while and see if the problems comes up
Then slowly bring on you programs, being sure to test the machine thourouly before installing anything else. This will let you know what may be causing you problem.

Is there anything else that leads you to suspect virus?

my bet,... hardrive or memory probs. You could download DFT and memtest86 , boot to them, let them scan, (for DFT do an advanced scan). At least you'll be able to eliminate the HD and mem out of the equation. :)

are you talking about DFT or memtest? No, they are purely diagnostic software. I use both of them on a regular basis.

Edit: In dft, if the results come up in red, it found bad sectors, green, no bad sectors.
