i am in the middle of configuring a computer build but i don't know if i should go with the phenom II x6 or should i wait for the bulldozer to come out. i am going to be using the ASRock 890FX DELUXE5 AM3+ AMD 890FX SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX AMD Motherboard.

Well it can depend on when you want to begin building. Now it will probably be worth it to wait, because the Bulldozers are supposed to be amazing. But that is your choice. If you aren't going to build it toward the end of June, I would just go for the Bulldozer. If you want to start asap, then you could go for the 6 core Phenom

The new line of AMD processors is definitely worth waiting for in my opinion. I think it is really going to beat the current Deneb processor line. You only have around a 30 day wait until the release.

orrrr buy a am3+ ready board with a chip that will hold you over, and do a heart transplant. something like a athlon ii 255 or something, id perfer getting most of the system built and running and do a cpu swap, but im impatient... alot of the gigabyte boards now have am3+ support now.

and if your going to wait till BD than wait on the MB and get the 990X/990FX + SB950 MB.(if you havent already got the ASrock)theres not alot out yet but by the time BD is released there will be plenty.

If you cannot wait. - ^^THIS

Personally I would wait. :D

Just note that if you want to buy an 800 series board for Bulldozer, it MUST have the black socket, like so:

Otherwise, you won't be able to fit your BD processor in. The white socket has one less pin-hole, so the Bulldozer processor won't fit. The AM3+ socket also has the pins spaced out differently, or the holes are bigger, to allow for bigger pins (more current through them)

Great information Linkin. There is always something new to learn in computer technology.

Best thing for me is when I decide to upgrade my motherboard to Socket AM3+ in the future I can use my current processor. That is one advantage of going with an Advanced Micro Device processor.

If I am getting you right then you mean to say that the 800 series AM3+ boards have black sockets. Right???

Actually Zambezi will fit a AM3 and AM3+ socket. The processor itself doesnt have the extra pin. Alot a Asus and MSI AM3 boards support Zambezi.

The difference is a AM3 socket only has 110A current. A AM3+ socket has up to 145A.

The link between a AM3 and the power Phase runs a 400mhz. On a AM3+ it runs at 3.4ghz

And to support a Zambezi a AM3 board has to have a 2 x 16 or 2 x 32 Mbit bios.

thats what i was referring to at least with am3+ support on certain 800 series boards, but id definately grab a board with a black socket to avoid any compatibility issues with TDP as strangle discribed

Dont think Asrock is going to update their AM3 boards for AM3+. They are just releasing 800 series boards with a AM3+ socket. Gigabyte is the same. Asus and MSI have AM3 boards that support AM3+

If you've got a spare HSF and thermal paste, get an OEM Athlon II 240/245, whichever model it is. Or if you really wanna go basic, the Sempron 140 is like $40.

If you are waiting for the first Socket AM3+ processors you are going to have to really wait now. AMD is going to delay the release of the first Socket AM3+ processors until around September.

i dont see gigabyte doing that, i sadly have a rev 2.1 board, and the 3.1's came with the am3+ socket...i was two months too early for am3+ i guess, but thats ok, if i really need a performance upgrade i can grab a 1100T if i want, they probably will be much cheaper by then.
