Phone and Modem options won't open

I click on Phone and Modem options and nothing happens... no hour glass or anything... why? Sometimes it does open but It's literally about 15 - 20 minutes after I clicked on it.

Anyone know why it is so slow and why nothing happens until 20 minutes later?

Please help.

It could be that, that part of windows is corrupt and you need to do a repair install of the OS.

Forgive me for asking but, if the system isn't connected to the internet, why do you need access to the phone and modem options? Are you using the computer for faxing?

No probs. No, I'm trying to get it connected to the internet.

I cannot connect to the internet on my laptop (toshiba qosmio g30) using a 3 mobile broadband modem for some reason.

When I click connect, after a while I get the error message: 797 (A connection to the remote computer could not be established because the modem was not found or was busy.)

I've seen somewhere on another forum that I might need to go into Phone and Modem options and remove the instances of the modem and reinstall it or something like that... But now Phone and Modem options won't open.

I might try do a repair like you said.

Go to 'my computer' right click it and go to properties. Then look in the 'device manager' section and see if anything has an exclamation mark or says it is not active. It could just need an updated driver too.

Then you won't need to go into phone or modem options to access that. That will all be configured under its own program or network connections.

Hey, Ninja guy.

I've checked that and It all seems to be fine. I think I just might need to do a repair. I've been having porblems since I first got the computer, .dll files missing and stuff like that. The computer was one of the ones on display in the shop so it wasn't exactly brand new.

Missing DLL files will definately cause that issue you are having. Hopefully a repair install will fix it.
