Phone to laptop modem

Not sure if this is the place but it can be moved if not. I just got a new mobile phone which has bluetooth. Now my laptop has bluetooth so i connected them up. I looked under the options i had under the device and one was use my phone as a modem for the laptop. I was wondering if anyone knew how that works. What needs to be done? What is required? Do i need to get a separate service? Any cost (i imagine so) and how much? Any help is appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

well, in theory if your cellular providor doesn't block it you can use your phone as a dial up modem to get onto the internet. You'll need drivers to tell your computer that the phone is a modem. For example i can connect my V3 Razr to my computer and use the modem drivers for it, but unfortunately i always get a call cannot be completed as dialed because my cellular providor some how blocks the call. They usually do this so you have to pay for their more expensive data service (if they have it). If they do allow it, once you get the correct drivers you should be able to dial up just like a regular modem.

not sure how it works down under but typically you pay for access through your mobile phone provider, otherwise you will get a huge charge for your minutes used. Sometimes they provide software or otherwise you can set it up via control panels if you are using windows

well it depends, if they don't know it's anything but a regular call and you have say "free nights and weekends" you could use it all night or all weekend without any additional charges

After you get all the drivers installed you will also need a dialup isp unless you have like earthlink or somthing simular. I get 20 hours of free dialup along with my broadband.
