ok, my wife is trying to make some birthday presents for people using our newborn's pictures
we have adobe photoshop 7.0 and mgi photosuite 3SE

what she is wanting to do on one of the pics is something i know we've been able to do before. of course, this was before reinstalling windows, so there may have been another program that we don't remember

she is wanting to make one of the pictures kind of 'fade out' around the outside of it
ya know, kind of like a lot of video cameras will allow you to do to where the middle of the picture is perfect, but around the outside, it starts to either fade lighter or darker

does anyone know either:
a. how to do this with the programs we currently have
or
b. what program we could use to do this (free program as this is not something we are going to use often anyways)

thanks all

I believe this is just one of the photo effects that you should be able to do with Adobe. Look under advanced options, or advanced effects or something like that, and then there should be something to that effect in there...

just open up the picture in adobe.

use the lasso tool to draw a shape around your picture so that it conforms with the parts that you want to be clear. if you want a square or circle, just use those appropriate tools instead of the lasso. draw it on the outside of the picture.

once done, right click on the shape with the lasso tool(whichever one you seleceted) and click "select inverse" or depending on your version (mines CS2) you might have to go to select>inverse at the top.

in the two color squares at the left, make sure the bottom one whatever color you want the fade to be.

now after the invers, right click on it again and select "feather" and give it like.. 30. and press delete.

not a problem. adobe takes a while (years) to get used to all its feautures and capabilities.

seems like it would. and i'm guessing that's probably while using it on a daily basis as well

see, i never need to do that much with pics.
all i ever do is scan/download the pic from camera, and then scale it down so it don't take as much space.
i think the most advance thing i ever do with pictures it to rotate them
LOL

but of course, my wife has to be more complicated then that and do all sorts of stuff. which, in turn, makes me have to learn how to do it first.
