Photoshop? GIMP? or other photo editing software?

Hi today I have a couple of questions

1. Why Photoshop when GIMP is free?? What's good about Photoshop?

2. But both GIMP and Photoshop are too difficult to use, is there any simpler and free alternative to these twos? Except Ms Paint

Thank you

I find PS and GIMP are about the same. GIMP is slightly more convoluted to use.

In short, they are complicated because of what they can do. What are you trying to do? Is there a particular feature you need and don't care about the rest?

I like the features PS has and how simple the layout is. Anything is easy to learn if you watch a few tutorials.

I don't really use GIMP but I don't like how it's laid out personally..

Hi, I can't specify what I will do now with a photo software at the moment but Ms Paint is certainly not enough for me and Photoshop/ GIMP is probably too much to be effective , so I am looking for something in the middle of them , however, if it's still difficult , I'll try Photoshop or GIMP.

I 'd like to know if Photoshop is a one-time fee or a subscription for a certain period?? and on their products page it looks like there are a lot of different products like Photoshop , Photoshop lightroom , Photoshop elements..........

what are they and what do I need?? I mainly need to modify pictures, create beautiful product description and adding effects...

Gimp, although having one of the worst UI is free and open-source, meaning you can add tons of add-ons depending on what you use it for. If you are going to learn one of the two and don't mind the UI, I'd suggest Gimp.
That being said we can't really help you if we don't know what kind of modification you need to do...

GIMP has good features, but it doesn't compare to Photoshop. Their RAW editor and content awareness when using fill and object removal are two of my most commonly used features of PS.

Which Gimp also has... UFRaw is an add-on for Gimp I use as a standalone software for RAW editing...

I didn't mean that GIMP can't edit them, but that I much prefer the layout and capability of PS's RAW editing compared to GIMP.

how many of you guy continuously subscribes to Photoshop????

Is there any free version for older version of PS? I guess PS has already existed for a long long time.

They're not hard to use if you watch a couple of tutorials and play around with them for a little bit.

You may find Corel PaintShop Photo Pro easier to use than both - it's also much cheaper, typically about £60 per release (but unlike Adobe CC it's not a subscription model so you are always stuck with the version you bought but you don't pay monthly or yearly for it).

There's also Adobe Photoshop Elements which is similar to PaintShop in terms of pricing (single fee per release), features and usability.

Just found that Photoshop charges monthly for individuals, it's not a reasonable choice for me.

I went for the yearly pre-paid plan for mine. I paid £190 upfront for 2014-15 (Adobe CC 2014 Complete - Student & Teacher Discount) and will be paying £300 each July from this year for it but it's kind of worth it because you are always guaranteed to have the latest release of the suite and I can have it on two machines whereas usually with retail software you have to buy separate licenses for each machine. Adobe CC is also a necessity for me with the work I do at school and home (I use it every day) so I am prepared to pay for it. :)

You can download Photoshop CS2 for free legally now from Adobe - it's 10 years old and lacks a lot of the features of the newer versions, but it's free legal Photoshop! :D Strictly speaking you had to be a CS2 customer before you can download this (the reason they are doing this being that they closed the activation servers for CS2 so those with legal copies of it could no longer activate their software), but they don't check so they are literally giving it away for free and it does work on Windows 7 and 8: https://helpx.adobe.com/creative-suite/kb/cs2-product-downloads.html

Just wait until 2022 or so and they might give CS6 away for free! ;)

I do and currently pay $19.99/mo with the education discount.

Until you can tell us what you're trying to do, anything we suggest is effectively meaningless.
