physx accelerator

hey guys!
i was just curious if anyone has these physics accelerator cards. i wanna kno how they perform and if they are actually worth the money.

Right now they are not worth the money. They are supposed to inprove gameplay somehow with improving quality. But few games support them ( I think only one game can't think of the game right now) and the pci slot that requires it to go in makes the card slow. In the future thought it might be a nice addition to a system.

thats what i figured, but do u kno anyone that actually has one and has experienced its performance?

All that is it for is to calculate the physics for games, it being on a PCI slot doesn't make it go slow, this is different then a video card.

Is most cases it makes your frame rate go down by a few FPS radther then up, only the few select games that support phsysics cards see inprovment over them. Currently you would have better luck with your money upgrading another part. In a few years we will most likly see physcis cards go into a larger effect and it may be worth it then.

I dont personally, but i've seen benchmarks and reviews on them, and they only give you a few fps advantage in some games, and actually lowers performance in others.

Right now the only thing physics accelerators do is add a bit more to the game, such as more debris when you shoot something.

So right now it's not worth the money, however in the near future when they develop more software for it, it may be worth the money.

ut2k7 will support them. of course i dont think they'll be required to run highest settings for quite some time.. with the right processor.
i think i may keep my extra 7800gt around for awhile just because of physics processing becoming more popular. wouldn't want to lose any money! lol

The high end nVidia and ATI cards are horrible at physics processing when compared to an Ageia PhysX processor. Not in your case, but if you're thinking of buying a high end card for physics only, dont get it, it's not worth it.

I think hes saying hes going to keep it for processing the physics instead of selling since he has a gtx, so im assuing the gt from before is what he would use for it.

ok so basically they just make everything look alot better and feel more realistic, but in doing so they give u lower fps and they are not worth the money yet?

Here's an example of a game with a PhysX card and without one. The one with the PhysX card is on the bottom, and the one without it is on top.

All it does now is add a few extra things to the game, it's not worth it yet.

The main problem is not that the card is not good, it is that no games are programed well anough to use the technology.

This card is made to speed up FPS as its main use it to take a load off the CPU however this game which I believe is the only one to support this does a horrible job.

Another neat thing that NVIDIA is going todo is incoperate a PhysX type card in the SLI system, although it's not fully funtional as a good as the PhysX card, it will also take a load off the CPU.
When you have SLI and play in single card the second card you have the ability to kick the disabled card into PhysX mode.
