PhysX?

I have a GTX 280 sitting in my desk and was wondering if I put it with my 5970 and use it for PhysX would it help me out at all gameplay wise? I am not sure what games actually use the hardware for physX but would it help out for games such as crysis? or left for dead?

You cannot combine 2 cards from different companies, although you could choose to use the gtx280 instead of the ati 5970.
Or if you really wanted you could send me one of them...because damn dude you got some serious pc equipment ha

haha, Yeah, I pretty much have 2 PCs. One is sitting in a closet, just needs a case, HDD and disk drive lol. Also, you can actually have an ATI card and Nvidia card running as a PhsyX card. There are driver updates you can install to support this. I am just need to know if it is worth it.

i think you will benefit a lot more if you were to give your "closet computer" away to someone... for free... with that "someone" being me. :D

You will benefit from having a dedicated physx card with a 5970. I doubt you will see any extra FPS, but you will get those special things that PhysX offers.

theres the answer

I think toms hardware managed to combine a ATi card with an nVidia card (nVidia was just for Physx though...)

And, even though you dont get PhysX with the ATi, the 5970 is a MONSTER card. The FPS you get on that thing is insane. 20 more frames than a GTX295 on Crysis  And in CoD: WaW, its min frames, are where the GTX295 avg is...

Dont only look at the average, look at the Min aswell

its a no brainer between the GTX 280 and a 5970... even wthout PhysX...

Check other games too, its an amazing card...

5970 with Nvidia's Physx I can only imagine one word: SICK... It would be nice to see someone with 2 5970s. Talk about computer world domination...

one question about Physx

are more games gonna support it? and does gta4 support it or nah i hope they come out with something id play that does support it cuz i have a 260 GTX and hear my card supports it but i dont know if i gotta download anything extra outside the drivers or do i already have that installed since i updated drivers

Does physx on the Nvidia cards make games look better over the 5970? I know the 5970 is more powerful but do the games still look as good as on a GTX295?

I know you used to be able to run ATI and Nvidia cards in the same computer but then they released driver updates that prevented this, due to competition between the companies. Then someone came up with 'hacked driver' that allowed the cards to be run together again.

I'd say try running the cards together, you''ll get an awesome gaming experience...

The drivers you can download from nVidia should contain the latest version of PhysX, but individual PhysX updates are also released.

Games like 'Batman: Arkham Asylum' do look a bit better due to the fact that you'll get some extra details that make the environment look more realistic. Here's a short comparison video of some of the differences in 'Batman: Arkham Asylum'.

Well, I tried to get my GTX 280 running with my 5970 but I could not get it working. Followed all the steps time and time again but nothing. Oh well. maybe I should just pick up a 5870 and crossfire my cards haha.

unless you manage to find an old ageia PhysX board....

From what I've read that is not an option anymore either. nVidia has tried to completely stop anyone from using one of their GPUs for PhysX with another brand's GPU left to take care of the graphics. People have reported not being able to use Ageia PhysX cards with AMD (ATi) GPUs as well so it just gets worse.
