Pictures and Music files are gone

Hi,

I have an external 2'' harddisk. I copied all my pictures and music files to this external hard disk before formatting and reinstalling windows XP.

After windows has been set up successfully, when it is in booting, it went into checking the external hard disk (fragment or check disk I think). Then all of my pictures and music files are gone. But I am sure, it should be still somewhere in the external hard disk.

Could you please let me know is there any chance could I get them back?

Thanks in advance.

Your help is much appreciated!

Are there any files on you external HDD? I'm pretty sure this "fragment or check disk" was FORMAT of your HDD.

"Windows has detected this hard-drive has not been formatted yet. Would you like to do so now?"

There maybe a software you can use to recover the formatted files.

Hi Marcin,

Thanks for your quick response.

yes, there are still files in my external hard disk such as movies and documents... and software...

However, the main folders contains pictures and music files are gone (about 10 GB).

I already tried to use PC Tools File Recover, but I could not recover them.

Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance.

Hi,

No, they are 2 folders in HDD, which are called Music and Pictures. But they are gone.

I am sure that I did not move them.

Thanks.

But your HDD, how much space does it report is full? Does it show the 10GB of music and pictures is being used, or does it appear as if it was erased?

Because if it reports it is there, it is possible the folders are invisible.

Hi,

My external HDD is 250 GB so it is difficult to say about that.

Yes, I think they are invisible and I am trying to use several recover software to get them back... Hopefully, I will get luck.

Thanks.
